Why Tom Lynch Has To Stay A Sun

The biggest star to come out of contract in 2018 is Gold coast captain Tom Lynch and despite the Melbourne media begging him to come and play for a Victorian club with saying that Tom Lynch is made for the big MCG crowed instead of the 15 thousand at Gold coast. The way I read it was why help build an expansion club instead let’s just be the VFL. With Tom Lynch coming out of contract at the end of 2018 and becoming the biggest free agent next year the Suns will have a fight on their hands to keep him but if Lynch looks long term his choice would be much easier.

It is no secret once a “Good” player leaves his original club his original clubs his value drops unless you are in the new age of veterans moving to a lesser club to help out like Stevie Johnson, Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge moving to new clubs in their 30s in recent years but imagine Matthew Pavlich playing for Port Adelaide in 2008 or Jonathan Brown and Nick Riewoldt moving to Collingwood in 2005 and 2008 for Brown and 2014 for Riewoldt. Imagine how their careers would be looked back on if that happened. Tom Lynch has a chance to be a Pavlich and lead a club from the bottom and if they win a flag or not still leave the club in a better position than it is now. Or he could leave and end up in Melbourne most likely Collingwood with maybe Rory Slone and just be another player that lead left the Suns. Staying at the Suns and lead them to a Grand Final is worth more than leaving your club and win a premiership.

It is no secret that Lynch is Gold Coast best player to date with 2 club championships and 1 All Australians to his name but in 2018 he is joined by more class than at previous years. Given their terrible draw to start the year I believe the Suns have the list to make 2018 a success with players like Lachie Weller joining and Martin, Hall and Miller taking their game to the next level.

I have never been involved in the VFL V AFL war a lot of interstate team’s supporters believe but when I read what some Victorian media personal pretty much say they want the Suns to end and Lynch can ride off into the sun set at Collingwood, Hawthorn or Richmond. Instead of wanting him to stay and lead the Suns to become a Successful AFL club.

Garry Ablett, Brandon Metera, Dion Prestia, Jaeger O’Meara, Charlie Dixon, Harley Bennell, Maverick Weller, Tom Hickey and Josh Caddy are all players that have left the Suns since they entered the AFL and last season signed young players Peter Write, Jack Martin and Co-Captain Steven May a sign that there is a future for the struggling for the new expansion club Let’s hope 2018 see Lynch semen his legacy as the face, heart and soul of the Gold Coast Suns.
