Round 5 For Dummies

April 23rd 2019

Liam O'Grady

Thursday

Brisbane 8.13.61 defeated by Collingwood 18.15.123

The first sell out GABBA ground since 2010 came to watch the Lions of old in saying that not like most of the crowed actually knew witch team was Brisbane. To my surprise Collingwood didn’t get lost on their way to the GABBA since they play away as much as I get job interviews but them playing away actually is successful. Collingwood handed Brisbane their second big loss in a row and continuing Collingwood habit of one good game and one bad game so Essendon should be happy. Brisbane have the Suns next week so it should be an easy win but knowing this season they are likely to lose by 100 points

Friday

North Melbourne 7.16.58 defeated by Essendon 17.14.116

AFL “why don’t people take this game serious?” also the AFL “removes Bulldogs after one of the games of the 2017 season adds ST Kilda for no reason then adds Essendon now there is a chance that North Melbourne might be removed” well watching this game looked like North Melbourne was already removed. It is the age old question was Essendon good or was North bad for Essendon we will see next week and for North well we know they are bad.

West Coast 8.5.53 defeated by Port Adelaide 13.17.95

If you lose to Richmond VFL at home one week then beat reigning premiers West Coast away the next then your season is in trouble. Jack Petruccelle kicked West Coast score up until half time 2.2 finished with 5.2 that is 53% of West Coast score. Port out played West Coast instead of going high like the Eagles in 06 they went low like the Eagles in 07.

Saturday

Greater Western Sydney 11.16.82 defeated by Fremantle 16.10.106

As a Freo fan I ask them to stop this be good of be terrible don’t play with my emotions with this half half stuff. GWS looked like flag favourites after their massive win over Geelong in Geelong and looked like this would be an easy win over the Dockers until one Mr Taberner came along. When Fremantle got McCarthy and Kerstern in 2017 people thought it would be the end of Taberner when Cox showed he could be a future key forward last year people thought it would be the end of Taberner. When Fremantle got Lobb and Hogan they were 110% sure Taberner won’t play in 2020. 5 Rounds in he is Freo’s best forward if he could kick straight.

Melbourne 7.13.55 defeated by St Kilda 15.5.95

If you ask Steven May Gold Coast has struck again a game where a lot of people thought both teams would show their true colours turns out they were right. St Kilda have so much heart at the moment and the AFL media owes Jack Billings an apology acting like he was the biggest dud in AFL history. Melbourne on the other hand is taking the 10-year challenge to seriously. A midfield with Gawn, Brayshaw, Jones, Viney and Oliver is one of the best in the AFL on paper but they are all stuck in 2018.

Richmond 13.11.89 defeated Sydney 10.7.67

Dusty played like it was 2017 again. Buddy overtook Matthew Lloyd and now sits 7th on the all-time goal kicking list Collingwood or Hawthorn fans can’t wait until he plays for them next season. Richmond shown us why round 3 was a little too early to right them off they really should of gone back to back last season. We are still playing “How will Sydney make it this season” but it is looking like we are running out of answers.

Sunday

Western Bulldogs 7.15.57 defeated by Carlton 15.11.101

“I SEE IT BUT I DON’T BELEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!” for the first time since round 11 2016 Carlton have scored over 100 points and they did it right on the siren as well. Carlton has shown that even if they finish last in 2019 they are building to be a serious team where the Doggie are showing that 2016 was just a fluke.

Adelaide 18.11.119 defeated Gold Coast 6.10.46

Gold Coast has come back down to earth after 3-1 start to the year and Adelaide did it for Eddie let’s hope for them they can do it for their supporters as well. Eddie did what Eddie best kicking a goal from the boundary but even if that kick came off 5 players hands hit the post and went through the points the umpire still would of payed a goal. Was good to see number 2 draft pick Jack Lukosius kick his first AFL goal in front of his home crowed in Adelaide.

Monday

Hawthorn 13.12.90 Defeated by Geelong 17.11.113

A classic Geelong v Hawthorn game they said despite Geelong winning by 23 points and Hawthorn not looking in it after quarter time but whatever makes a headline. Geelong is showing why they are currently the best team in the AFL but is that really saying much with St Kilda and Fremantle 2nd and 3rd. Garry Ablett played his best game since joining Geelong something I also said last week. Hawthorn is showing why having a bunch of players from other clubs mixing with kids picked in the 50+ isn’t going to win you a flag.
