Round 1 For Dummies

March 25th 2019

Liam O'Grady

Thursday

Carlton 9.10.64 defeated by Richmond 14.13.97

If you listen to the media Tom Lynch was best on ground and will win the Colman by 100 goals and win the Brownlow by 50 votes but in reality, his game was good. Just good kicked 3 goals with his 7 touches but it was Lynch first game playing for the struggling Richmond after captaining the dominating Gold Coast Suns last season showing us all how fair the AFL Free Agency system is. Richmond went home at Quarter time with Carlton coming back to two goals during the fourth quarter and If was a better team Carlton would have won. In good/bad news for Richmond Alex Rance did his ACL but for Richmond it’s better to have 21 games to replace him than if he went down close to finals.

Friday

Collingwood 9.11.65 defeated by Geelong 10.12.72

If Collingwood are level at 3qt they are going to lose the match. Tim Kelly showed West Coast how good he will be for them next year and Tom Hawkins kicked goal number 500 if you ask a St Kilda fan its 499 because it hit the post in the 2009 Grand Final. Dayne Beams played his first game for Collingwood after saying 10000 times last season that he is staying in Brisbane and again if you listen to the Media this was game of the year. Witch it wasn’t Game of the week will surprise you…

Saturday

Carlton W 9.10.64 Defeated Fremantle W 4.4.28

Carlton should right a massive thank you letter to the AFL house because if it wasn’t for the genius conference system that had 2nd place Fremantle play 5th Carlton in Melbourne Fremantle would be playing North Melbourne at home this week. The result though would have been the same with the Dockers forgetting to show up at Ikon Park. And for the first time since 1999 Carlton are into the Grand Final.

Melbourne 9.7.61 defeated by Port Adelaide 12.15.87

Melbourne still suffering from their prelim loss to West Coast struggled against the Power who was all over them all game. Zak Butters would of made a lot of Victorian teams happy with his 13 touches and 2 goals on debut when he get “home sick” and wants to return back to Victoria Westoff was Weston with 5.0, but it was 2 time All Australian Max Gawn who had no impact that could be a massive issue for Melbourne supporters.

Adelaide 7.13.55 defeated by Hawthorn 12.15.87

You know that guy at a party who no one really knows or likely but he just does not leave that is Hawthorn even though their list is around the age of the Earth with them having a phobia of getting young kids they still find a way to look good. Adelaide still recovering from their 2017 Grand Final loss are ready for another year of disappointment and players leaving.  Worpel one of their rare young players had a game and a half might have something to do with the famous number 5 jumper showed he could be Tom Mitchell replacement but since Hawthorn played like they didn’t miss him maybe Tom Mitchell isn’t as dominating as people think.

Western Bulldogs 11.16.82 defeated Sydney 9.11.65

Wearing their Thor jumper, the Bulldogs unlike Thor went for the head of the Swans let’s hope for the Doggies their performance isn’t like the Thor movies themselves because next week is going to suck but then round three they will win by 100 points. Bulldogs must of loved having Aaron Naughton up forward and the Bulldogs must love having Aaron Naughton down back to bad cloning isn’t a thing yet because the Doggies would jump right on that. Could 2019 be the season that Sydney finally miss the 8 looked like it the team showed no heart for 90% of the game and when they did the almost won the bloody thing.

Brisbane 15.12.102 defeated West Coast 8.10.58

If Premiership hangovers is a thing West Coast could be as messed up as Ben Cousins after a normal Monday. They were shown up by Brisbane making their 44-point loss the worst since Carlton 1971 loss to North Melbourne. Media hyped up Brisbane to no ends in the off season. But when they got to 44 points up to the reigning premiers they decided to do the West Coast are missing players maybe the thought it was just hype and it wasn’t going to happen so they were just shocked. For the first time since Hawthorn in 2015 the reigning premier lost round 1 the 38th time its happened in VFL/AFL history. Also their 44 point loss is the 4th biggest loss by a reigning premier. Also also it’s the first time since 2012 that both Grand Finalist lost round 1

Sunday

Adelaide W 11.7.73 defeated Geelong W 1.1.7

We should all be against violence against Women but this was a murder Adelaide are into their second Grand Final witch is on a Sunday even though the AFL left a Saturday Afternoon free for the AFLW Grand Final nothing but respect from the AFL.

St Kilda 13.7.85 defeated Gold Coast 13.6.84

When Fox footy plays:” Game of the Round” they will show the Collingwood v Geelong game even though that game was what many people thought this game would be. Fantastic game this was. I said last week that they should make the best on Ground get to choose the team he wants to go to and I think I was right both teams played their heart out Alex Sexton showed that there is someone at the Suns who can kick goals but unfortunately for them he is out of contact at seasons end. Can’t wait for their rematch later this season when the Saints are looking for their second win and Gold Coast their first.

Greater Western Sydney 16.16.122 defeated Essendon 5.10.40

Devon Smith joked that the Giant stadium was a graveyard despite a large number of his team mates playing in front of a higher crowed than he ever has why? Because he wasn’t in their best 22. Essendon made West Coast look like Brisbane with how bad they played and Dylan Shiel making a call to GWS asking if they can have him back. Hawthorn counting their lucky stars that Coniglio is a free agent this season and not just out of contract because they don’t have any first-round draft picks to give GWS when he leaves at season end. For the second year in a row GWS are top of the ladder after round 1.

Fremantle 21.15.141 defeated North Melbourne 9.5.59

You read that right not 41, 141 after losing Lachie Neale and Jesse Hogan being unable to play the Dockers smacked North Melbourne. Fremantle celebrated their 25th anniversary and got Luke Hodge to show off the 2013 Premiership cup as that is the closes they have been in the 25 years. Cam McCarthy played his traditional one good game a year and yes again Fremantle Dockers scored 141 but surprising it’s only the first time since round 8 2018 that Fremantle was the highest scoring team of the round. Fremantle who only scored 224 goals in 2018 are only 203 goals away from breaking that.
