HIMYM Ending Still Holds Up

March 20th 2019

Sat down to watch the How I Met Your Mother final five years after it first aired the other day, and four years on it is still one of the best ending to a TV show. How I Met Your Mother as much as it was a Friends clone on the outside on the inside it was one of the most real shows in history. From season one it sets the tone with how close Barney could have been like Marshall and Lilly and shows how quickly someone can go from believing in true love to thinking love does not exist. In How I Met Your Mother the show has death of a parent, Robin not being able to have kids, a successful marriage that ends in devours, being left at the altar, the nicest person having to wait years to reach his dream and when he became so close gives it up for the women he loves. And finally, the death of the Mother and after six long years of pain Ted finally found it in himself to love again.

The show teaches it audience that life can suck but it is not all bad. I re watched the Fresh Prince of Bel Air the other week and the character Will is the same guy at the end of the series than at the start. The same could be said for Friends they are just 10 years older but How I Met Your Mother by the time Barney and Robin get married they are not the same person they were in 2005. I know the final get hate because you waited nine years to find out the mother is dead and Barney and Robin separated and yes Barney going back to his old ways was a bit off but once again that is real life.

I re watched the series with a more negative mine set this time around being four years older than when it ended and my life has changed in four years so of cores my outlook on the series will be different and I found myself not liking the show as much as I did when I was younger but still loved the ending as much. And when Robin left Lilly at the end of part one I thought to myself about my group I hanged out with at the end of year twelve four years ago and who I hang out with now they are completely different and as a kid we would be friends forever and always be there now I see most of them twice, three times a year if that.

I know when you watch a show you don’t want “real” and want a happy ending where everyone rides off into the sunset but that’s just not true. Unlike any show you can watch How I Met Your Mother at any point in your life and it will teach you the same thing life changes in a blink of a eye and if that isn’t the best lesson of all I don’t know what is
