Australian's Best Sport That Know One Knows.

How many people knew that two Saturdays ago Australia defeated Argentina 2-1 to take out the 2017 World Hockey League? How many people know that Australia went back to back winning in also in 2015? How many people know that Australia are closing 2017 number 1 in the world for the men’s 5th for the woman’s? The answer would be not as much as it should be. Australia Men and Women’s have taken out every championship in Field Hockey. Field Hockey dose have a massive market to be involved in competing with Cricket, AFL, Rugby League and Union and the rapid growth of Soccer since 2006. But Hockey has never been in the same league as them, they have never been in the same league as Basketball as a “B” sport for Australia.

Australian Hockey has its own league with a team for each state and Territory’s as well as four international teams. The one game TV audiences know was the Kookaburras 2004 Gold Medal at the Olympics in Athens when the Kookaburras finally won a gold medal the one championship that was missing. The big question is why Hockey isn’t big in a country that is so good at it. When looking online the first player who came up was  Jamie Dwyer who represented Australia 326 times and scored 215 goals was a part of Australia’s 2004 Gold Medal team and won the 2010 and 2014 World Cup as well as two Oceania Cup wins and Three Commonwealth Games Gold Medals.

We can name Don Bradman (Cricket), Leigh Matthews (AFL) Cameron Smith (NRL) Quade Cooper (Rugby Union), Rod Laver (Tennis) Andrew Gaze (Basketball) Adam Scott (Golf) even Cardel Evans (Cycling) but try and guess who Australian’s greatest filed Hockey player is? I can’t I cannot name five current players. In Pakistan Field Hockey is their number one sport. It is more popular than cricket. It is true in Australia we are spoiled for sport in Melbourne alone they have (AFL) Melbourne, North Melbourne, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs “As Well as Geelong in Geelong”. Melbourne Storm (NRL), Melbourne Rebels (Super League), Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City (A- League), Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades (BBL) Victoria Bushrangers (Sheffield Shield), Melbourne United (NBL), Melbourne Aces (ABL) Melbourne Ice (Ice Hockey) Melbourne University (NFL) As well as Tennis, Golf, The Australian Grand Prix, Melbourne Cup, World Wrestling Entertainment (Once a Year) so hard for Field Hockey which is less fast and tough as Ice Hockey to crack into that market.
